In the heart of the Alps between Munich and Verona a new climate atlas is underway. It is produced within the framework of the Interreg programme IV Italy – Austria. This atlas will document the climate of the last 30 years in multiple ways and combine it with a prospect of the development in the near future.
More than 133 million meteorological data from 1210 stations in the entire region were collected since November 2011 led by ZAMG and with energetic contribution of the project partners Hydrographisches Amt Bozen and ARPA Veneto. Currently an intensive and elaborate quality control of the 42 parameters is carried out. The thus thoroughly checked data is an excellent basis for high resolution maps, trend analysis, extreme value analysis and many more. On the regional scale we will also examine, to what extent the climate has already changed. Therefore long data series reaching back to 1877 are analysed.
First results will be available in autumn. Some evaluations are specifically designed for the needs of Service for Torrent and Avalanche Control, for Hydrographical Services as well as for Forest and Environmenal departments. However, the majority of the products will be available to the public free of charge.
